Purple Rose Birthday Card

I made this card for my mother's birthday.  I started by stamping the two tone roses in light and dark purple on white cardstock along with the leaves.  I fussy cut them out.  I scored the bottom of my card panel to give it some dimension, added a piece of purple velvet ribbon and stamped my sentiment before using pop dots to attach the roses and leaves to the card.  As a finishing touch I added a few crystals.

Best Wishes Rose

This was my second attempt at my complex background.  I used a lace edge stamp for the corners, masked them and the centre label, then used the background stamp.  I edged the label with a gold marker.  I went over the lattice with a red marker to give a hint of shadow, and used some more red marker on the lace.

For the label I did another gold edge, stamped the sentiment and roses and coloured them with markers.

Rose Bouquet Card

I made this card for Penny Black's Website Wonder Contest.

I used the Rose die from their new Happy Everything collection.  I die cut several roses and coloured them using a mix of gelatos (red and black with a touch of metallic red for the flowers, plain green for the leaves and stems).  I then painted over the colour with water to blend it all in.

While those dried, I embossed my cardstock and stamped the sentiment from Penny Black's Hello Gorgeous set.  I attached the flowers using a mix of glue and pop-dots, then added a strip of glitter ribbon.

Love Rose Card

I made this card for Simon Says Stamp's Emboss It challenge and I'm also submitting it to Penny Black's Sending Hugs challenge (even though I used a PB die rather than stamp).

I started out by making the accordion heart, die cutting the form twice and glueing it down.  I cut and embossed the red panel and then die cut the rose out of watercolour paper.  Because the Penny Black rose die is so delicate, I coloured it with gelatos before taking it out the negative paper.  I wet a cloth and melded the colours so it would have a slight watercoloured look.

I stamped 'love' on the cardstock and assembled the card, using a piece of glitter ribbon as a border.  I'm really happy with how this turned out.

Velum Rose

I bought a stamp set online of rose outlines and leaves a little while ago and when it arrived (as sometimes happens) I was surprised by the size of the stamps.  I expected the roses to be fairly small to regular, a good size for cards.  What I got was medium to large - too large, I thought, for cards.

Then I remembered some cards using stamps that go off the page and that used stamps in creative ways.  I'm still planning the off the page card, but I decided to use the stamping on vellum technique with this set.

So, I used versa mark ink and then heat embossed with lilac embossing powder.  I added a touch of colour with a purple dye ink (it didn't show up well, so I left them mostly white/vellum).  The leaves were embossed with teal powder, with some teal pigment ink on top (also didn't show up well).

For the card, I used a purple cardstock for the back with a sheet of patterned paper taped on top.  I die cut my new ribbon threader border, inking the dry embossed parts with white ink.  I threaded a dark purple ribbon through and then glued it on.  The centre of the flowers was done with a blue/purple glitter glue.

Lastly I added the flower.  The bottom layer is glued on the page, with one side of the leaves underneath.  I pop dotted the tips of the leaves so they'd stick up a bit and the second layer of the rose.

I've got some room in the middle for a sentiment, should I decide to add one when I give the card.

Orange Rose

I worked an off-site for the store last week so I'm still pretty tired from it, hence the older card I'm publishing today.

Orange and yellow are not my favourite colours, so this card was a stretch for me.  The ribbon is dark green velvet, though it's hard to see that in the picture.

The rose stamp is from Stampin' Up and is 2 rubber stamps on top of each other.  They're hard to line up so I don't use the stamp as much as I'd like (and yes, I have a line up tool, though not a stamp-a-ma-jig, but it still doesn't line up properly).  I added the clear rhinestones to balance the rose, as I stamped it off center in the circle.  The dragonfly is a dollar store find.  Not sure where the sentiment is from.  If you're interested, ask in the comments and I'll look it up.

Blue Rose Card

Despite feeling horrible I managed to do some crafty things today, including making 2 cards.  Here's the second card I made, using the first of my Um Wow Studio embellishments.

I started by die cutting and embossing the oval out of white cardstock.  With the metal die still in place I stamped both the rose (using markers) and notation (using ink).  I tried to sponge tan ink around the edges so it would go with the corrugated cardboard heart better, but I forgot to wipe the excess black ink off the die first, so it's much darker than I'd intended.  Live and learn.  I used pop dots to affix the oval and glue tape for the hearts.

The hearts and embellished paperclip are from the Um Wow Studio December kit. :)

I've posted a close-up of the rose stamp.  Normally when I colour stamps with markers I only use one shade, this time I added a second blue and green making the rose a bit more realistic.  I really liked how it turned out.

I was also trying to see how well I could line up the lace stamps (then covered the join).  

I'm not quite sure how I feel about this card...
